Are you ready for NaNoWriMo?

The year is just about over and yet it hardly feels like we’ve started. Next month is November! Or as writers know it; NaNoWriMo.

Once again writers around the world are taking part in this month long event and this year looks bigger than ever.

What is NaNoWriMo?

NaNoWriMo (National novel writing month) happens every November. It’s a time for aspiring writers, and published writers, to go get out of their comfort zones and start writing their novel.

The aim of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words in one month. This might sound like a lot but if you do the math then it’s really not that hard.

30 days in November

=1,666 words per day.

Just over 1,500 words per day! I reckon most people could find the time to write that if they really tried.

Is NaNoWriMo right for you?

You might be on the fence about starting a novel. You might have ideas but don’t know if you can do it. Well NaNoWriMo is the perfect time to find out.

I get that not everyone has a story developed in their heads but that’s why I’m writing this post early. There’s still a few weeks until November starts. Plenty of time to find your perfect story!

If you’ve ever dreamt of writing your own novel then why not start this November?

NaNoWriMo is the perfect time to finally get out of your comfort zone and start writing. Writing a novel is a hard thing to do, a very hard thing, but you have to start sometime. Why not now?

You might think that you’re the only one considering this but you’re not. A lot of people participate in NaNoWriMo every year and you don’t have to do it alone! Writing is not alaways a solitary career.

I might make it sound like this is going to be all rainbows and unicorns but NaNoWriMo is a big commitment; it could change your life!

Time is one thing that everyone never seems to have enough of. How would you go with giving up some of your time ,an hour or two, every day and dedicate it to writing? Could you do it?

The biggest misconception about this event is that 50,000 words is a complete munauscript. It might technically count as a novel but it’s well under the average book word count by at least 20,000 words. You might get a good start on a first draft in November but it takes a lot of work after that.

50,000 words in one month seems pretty daunting to anyone. Especially if you’ve never tried writing a novel before. It might look like a lot but if you stick to your goals then it’s easier than you might think.

If you’re even just curious to know if you can write a novel then now is the time to try. With November just around the corner we don’t have much time left to prepare.

I look forward to writing with all of you 🙂
