Sorry that I’ve been gone for so long. I’ve had a reoccurring issue with my blogging for the past few months; the issue of my lack of planning.
I’ve always tried to improvise everything I do. Always in the spur of the moment. But I’m only now realising that that isn’t a very effective method for doing anything.
So why is planning so important?
The importance of planning
I’ve tried and failed many times to work without a plan and now I am left with the conclusion that planning is essential to good work!
There are many reasons to plan but these are the two main reasons why plans are so essential to effective work:
- Time management
Dirction and time management. Two essential ingredients for effective work.
Without direction how do you know where you are going?
What you are aiming for?
What is your end goal?
Having a written plan gives you a visual reminder of what you are working towards. If you go off track or take a new direction in your plan then you can always keep yourself accountable to your original plan.
Time management is harder to get under control than your direction. There are so many distractions that cut into your time; whether it’s Netflix, reading or just lounging around. Time gets away from us. Scheduling your time and sticking to your plan is the best way to take back your time. Staying away from the distractions is always the hardest part.
There’s only so many hours in a day, we need to be in control of what happens with them.
My new plan
It’s hard to believe that we’re already nearing the end of October. Seeing that we’re so near to the end of the year, it seems like the perfect time to start building a plan for next year.
I’m going to take the final ten weeks of 2017 to build up better habits and prepare myself for 2018.
My new plan will build habits for my:
- Freelance work
- Creative writing.
This new plan will schedule time out of my everyday life and dedicate it to each of those topics. By the end of the year I should have built up the habits to be as effective and efficient as I can be.
Every week I will be posting blogs updating my progress and you can hold me to that! This new plan will help to reguide me as a writer and help me to dedicate my time to the right areas.
By the end of 2017 I will have reached the ultimate state of productivity that I can for the time being.
Look out for my following blog post next Tuesday.
Does anyone else follow a detailed plan with their work? Let me know in the comments.
